Body styling and livery shares a fair bit with the left-hand drive prototype Leyland Olympian which Baghdad trialled for a while, and now lives in Gibraltar...

Have a look at the bottom of the windscreen, there are narrow horizontal opening sections there.

Was that not the first of an order for Baghdad by Bombardier at Shannon and was curtailed by the Iran Iraq war from 1980-88 . I saw it en route to Southampton Dock.
A number of exBaghdad Leyland Atlanteans/ Park Royal, were in operation in Gibraltar working the Airport to City centre certainly in 2003, I have pictures of them at work alongside ex Berlin (BVG) M.A.N SD200. Gibraltar though British, drives on the right...

Body would be identical frame dimensions, window gaskets, etc. Same windscreen. I guess that with those obviously bigger wheels, the bus probably sat an inch or two higher. The bigger wheels create an optical illusion of a shorter wheelbase.

Great shots and a very interesting vehicle. There is definitely a shorter wheelbase. Is it me, or is the windscreen not as curved inwards as ours?

I notice that the stair case is behind the driver.
Is there any interior shots or ones of it in service in Bagdad?

I just noticed that the destination blinds read Bagdad Passenger Transport Authority. Interesting as to why its in english and not arabic either

OOPPPSSSS!! Left-hand drive, yes, well eh... Ok i walked right into it didn't i ha ha. I thought it was an ex CIE bus which had been converted with doors on other side but obviously the left hand drive was a right give away. I was going more so by the title of KD that i just never really copped on about the left hand drive. God i'll never live this one down now

Thanks for that C236. I thought that it was an ex C.I.E. bus which was sent to Baghdad after ending its days in Ireland.

It was not numbered in the CIE KD series as it never operated for them. It was built purely for export only, and remained a one-off. Baghdad City Transport (or whatever they were called) had a large fleet of deckers, including left hand drive Atlantean AN68s.

As far as I recall,the Baghdad Bus travelled from Donnybrook to Rolls Royce in Crewe for some fairly substantial remedial work to its engine which had developed something of a thirst for Oil.....!!

Nothing new there.....!!

Fantastic photos Aquavid, thanks for sharing. The bigger wheels make the short wheelbase look even shorter. It's hilarious how despite all the work done to print all notices in Arabic, the "Push Once" bells remained.
