Is VP340 now a school bus? |

Yes, it came off tour duties and went onto commuter work and is now on schools.

Is that the only plaxton paragon in the fleet?
I never knew that BÉ had some. |

They also have some ex UK Paragons on schools work.

Was it not on Express work instead of tours? Seems a bit silly putting it on schools when there's older buses running around on service work

I too am quite surprised to see that bus on schools so early . The Bus Eireann Plaxton Paragons are VP 340 , 401 - 405 . VP 340 was aquired new in 2000 as a
test bus for the type , the company must not have been too impressed as they never bought any more new , about 2 years ago when the school fleet upgrade got
underway many secondhand coaches were aquired from the U.K. including many that were previously leased by the company , VP 401 - 405 were amongst the first
coaches to arrive that had not previously been with the company and were part of a batch of 10 that was split between Bus Eireann and Callinans

I guess it is all down to PR- a newer bus that is operating as a school bus has been chosen to be the one chosen to travel around the country on this promotion
to demonstrate safety.
It wouldn't look too good if they chose a KRS as this vehicle for the tour! KD 188 |

If they wanted a newish bus they'd have used one of the 07 reg schoolbuses , I suspect other reasons for its early downgrading , does anyone here who has
driven this bus know if its any way reliable?

I would say its probably not a bad bus.
However the drivers weren't keen on it as it was a 00 reg and was still doing some long distance work in 2003/4/5 when there would have been newer VC, SC, SP and VG types as an alternative. |

Some drivers don't realise how spoilt they are these days, imagine being handed a coach under five years old for long distance work, disgraceful!!!!!!!

Indeed , spoilt for choice , I recall not so long ago that coaches UNDER 10 years old on long distance routes were in the minority , getting a 10 year old CVH
was considered doing well on some routes as you could have got a 14 year old KE or 23 year old M , there was even a 30 year old machine turning up on the odd
long run out of Broadstone (anyone recall which bus that was ?)

Interesting , I did'nt know her engine had seized , easy knowing Cyril McIntyre is retired (never would have happened on his watch) , I once saw a E class
engine unseized by lowering it into a vat of boiling oil and it was allowed to boil for 48 hours , when it was re-assembeled after being boiled it had a lovely
roar to it
