Some info for u Fred, PL71(PLS71) spent a number of years in Kells, Co. Meath, (on schools), up until i presume 1 year ago or so, as i didn't know that she
had been moved to Thurles, and I certainly didn't think that it had been scrapped. The scrapping of the PL's seemed to just have come out of the blue,
as they're seems to be quite a few PL's scrapped in recent months unfortunately. I was a big fan of the PL's, although i know they are not very
well liked by many people. Ex- Navan schoolbus PL67 (PLS67),(my old schoolbus) has been lying up on the stones in Stranolar garage in Co. Donegal since about
last November (scrapped), alongside the latest scrap victim MH12 (scrapped due to unrepairable engine damage), this bus spent the last 2 or 3 years in
Drogheda, and was buried a long way from home. Here is some info on some of the buses listed in your Thurles Depot Post. PL99 - Ex Drogheda bus, (bit of a
give-away with Drogheda-Donore-Newgrange-Slane painted on the side windows ha ha, i can't believe its stil written on it 4 years after leaving its
homeground), PL106 also a native of Drogheda, PL113 from Dundalk/Monaghan, and TE1 spent the last 7 or 8 years in Navan/Kells/Trim area, which i also didnt
know had emigrated to Thurles. PL75 which i seen in Limerick garage last year (which is now painted in the red/white schools livery) is also from Drogheda (she
was a little flyer), and PL105 (seen in Limerick garage last year aswell and was then in its original livery of mostly white), also a native of Drogheda,
spending its last 4 or 5 years rostared on the Navan route 188. Hopefully this is of interest to some of you. Any more info or news about the PL's would be
greatly appreciated. Thanks.

PL 75 76 came to Drogheda from Broadstone in 2000. They were on Dublin - Cork when they came to the fleet first. They spent a short time on the 100 along with
PL 81 before the VRs arrived. They ended up with PL75 marked in on Navan and PL76 replacing TE 34 on the Ardee route. PL99 operated Laytown and in between
operated the Donore shuttle replacing KR158 in this role.
TE 2 now resides on Achill Island along with ex Drogheda VC 130.

Thanks a million for that GSI340, i can't believe that TE2 is now in Achill, i thought she might still be in the Broadstone area somewhere, didn't
know she went west. Thanks also for the history on the PL's, i didn't know their background before they came to Drogheda. I know VC130 is around that
area, i remember seeing it in January of 2007, i was heading from Sligo to Westport on the 10am ex Sligo (which that day was VP328, it was on a Saturday in
January 2007), i met VC130 on the Sligo side of either Westport or Castlebar at some time around 11.30 or 12noon, can't remember exact time or where it was
going, but that was the one and only time i seen 130 since it left Drogheda. Also seen VC129 in Castlebar, VC128 & VC129 are ex Cavan buses. Have seen 129
a couple of times. How does VC130 look these days? Is she looking well or looking rough? Did she recieve a lick of paint like 129 did or is she in her original
colours? Anyone got any pic's of VC130? Where and what route does 129 & 130 usually operate these days? Are they spare or on schools or what?

Fred how long do u think all those buses in Thurles will be there for before being removed? Would they all be there in about 2 weeks or so from now or will
they be gone by then? Is it easy to go around the yard and take a few pictures of them and is it beside or part of the Railway Stn.? I've never been to
Thurles but hope to go down in about a fortnight. It would be great to see all those buses in real life again.

Does anyone know if those buses, particularly PL99, 106, 112 & 113 will be in Thurles yard in the next 3 or 4 days? I hope to go there sometime this week
and i would love to know if they are all still there please

Folks, before anyone starts getting themselves into any trouble, advocating entering active bus garages/depots is not something that is encouraged.
In particular, Bus Éireann do not permit anyone onto their depot property except those persons who are on official business. Therefore the entering of any depot for the purpose of taking pictures/looking at buses is not allowed. Please do NOT use garaiste to advocate this sort of practice as it will only make life difficult for anyone trying to enjoy the hobby/interest. |
