I've tryed Ebay, Hattons & Ryanbus and asked a friend (who is also on this forum) and he had no joy as well in the model shops in Dublin City. I think it is a tourist type shop but they have the Bcahmann 141/181 models in the window. Surprisingly they are quite thin on the ground and therefore a shortage. Perhaps it would be a good time for you guys to contact the new Hornby-Corgi empire to get them to do an early liveried first model...which has not been done yet. I have no contacts at Corgi as Cyril McIntyre was the main man there... I have asked Britbus-Irbus to consider the AEC Regent as a post GNR (In the CIE Green/eau de nil) and I ma informed that there may be an Olympian Volvo in the Blue/Cream/orange.....wait and see . If you are desperate I may have a spare boxed AW somewhere in the loft and perhaps a swap wpould suffice...THAT'S IF I FIND IT !!! I hope all are pleased with the new Olympiam Irbus RT 706 and as you can see most of the defects are corrected, except the back blinds (Should be yellow) otherwise a good rendition. Don E Brook

Posts: 126 30/07/2008 23:39:58 Full Member	Oneonetwo, Unless you can supply pictures, close coat of arms shots in colour , Oxford Blue/ Cream in EXACT match, then it will be as CIE Green/Eau de Nil.. No doubt you have sat and watched the smallest of criticism on the Britbus/Irbus models... AND Yes some of it was deserved. etc. The latest R706 Dublin Bus Olympian is a good rendition and most defects corrected. In addition though living out of Ireland and grew up in Dublin late 1940s to 1967 and vividly remember the drivers, some in brown shop coats on the Skerries run when we spent family weekends there.Hark I can even recall the 'air freshner' odour in those , strange sounding engines, so unlike the Leyland 0600. Well turned out and 'terribly British' looking too.. but lovely. It was our plan to do three in the following order Green/Eau de Nil, CIE Blue Monastral and finall the GNR itself, subject to INTEREST, of which there has been little regards the GNR liveried bus.and in fact no one has offered me assistance apart from Cyril Mcintyreand Michael Dryhurst with black & white pictures..so if you by any chance got some good quality pictures I would greatly appreciate a loan for scanning One has to remember that the interest in this bus would be from at least my age (60) . Many of the middle aged Irish collectors would not have seen or remembered the Eden Quay parking site... That said, don't give up and we will be hopefully producing the five lower bay window model as in line with the current Britbus body casting. The preserved 438 was only four bay so we need to look at 295/7 etc and with the option of closed or open platform, so there you are ,I hope this puts things into perspective THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST. I didn't react to your first posting because it only stated that you had asked Britbus-Irbus to consider the project. I don't want to get my hopes up too high at this stage. I have converted the EFE 1/76 model of a Regent 1, into GNR 285, which is on display at the GNR exhibition in Dundalk at the moment. I have GNR transfers bought when they were available some years ago, and others which I had made specially which are not as good, but still satisfactory. The model still needs "lining-out" which I cannot get at the moment despite various enquiries. I would be delighted to help with photos, all of which I received from other enthusiasts as I am the same age as you are Don E Brook and was just too young to take photos in GNR days. When I was old enough to have my own camera in the mid. 60's, I photographed a large number of ex-GNR buses in their CIÉ liveries wherever I could find them, mostly on Howth/Portmarnock routes, in Broadstone and in both Drogheda and Dundalk where most of them worked. Posts: 128 31/07/2008 23:21:39 Full Member	Tarabuses & oneonetwo, Stranger things have happened and indeed it took Cyril McIntyre over nine years to get EFE to produce a Cork Leyland TD1..I felt embarrassed as it only tokk myeslf and James Stirling on Allsorts about f our years of of moaning at Frank Joyce and in a short time he did us the Bolton and the Capetowner. Currently I have all the detail required for R 427 at Franks office at EFE and hoping he will produce if not before year end then early 2009. I have also asked him to get on with the Leyland TD1 in the CIE Eau de Nil/Green as it would be an easy copy as he has don the Bolton. Davis Rowe and myself are actively talking to Benny Wong at Britbus with regards to the GNR/CIE AEC. I am hoping that Cyril will use his powers of persuasion at the new rehashed CORGI-Hornby Group to do a second run of the Dublin Artic in the early livery and also in the new Bus Eireann livery for the Volvo Wroght Solar and I know he is working on the latest Corgi Irizar in the latest Bus Eireann livery. Cyril has made great strides with Corgi and others in the production of Irish models. My brother will be meeting with Danny Chan of Creative Master in September also we have advised Danny of Dublin Bus plans to buy the 50 Dennis ADL Enviro400 so this should fit in with most Irish modellers plans for the future. Its a great shame that production stopped on the CIE D Atlantean in White metal. Mnay fans were disappointed. Technical problems were to blame ith the top deck framing.. We had exactly the same problem with the resin kits we experimented with and indeed DonCraggs (RIP) at Britbus decided not to undertake the 'D' Metsec production having seriously considered it. I do hop that Hull Models find a way, as they were the pioneer of this bus and indeed their first attempt at such a project, which many actually see the light of day again sometime. Don E Brook

I wasn't aware that Don Craggs had looked at the D class. It would have been interesting to see how that would have turned out. Posts: 21 03/08/2008 13:28:17	Don, I was wondering with your connections to Britbus, do you know if they have the info for the MCW Metro rider, nipper, as operated by Dublin Bus on its route 210 years ago? I feel the GNR would be a very nice livery on the AEC double Decker from Britbus. In the musem in Howth they have a GNR decker with the logo but the bus is so squashed in that it is impossible to photograph it. You mentioned the orange, navy, cream as an RH possibly soon? Although i would welcome it I, like many others who collect the models, would welcome liveries not already done ie old Airlink, Raillink and allover livery / ad or the wedding bus. Maybe this is in the pipeline anyway? Corgi sent bus Eireann a preproduction Bus Eireamnn Irizar and I saw this. However to my knowledge it is to be produced in the new livery with route branding. Corgi also have pictures of this Volvo Wright single deckers, so they are on their records. On the subject of records we used to have the bendies on the number 10 and before they all went yellow and navy i sent corgi the old livery snapshots, so they also have them on file. There is an Irish themed model coming from them next year and surprise surprise it is NOT CIE, DB, or Bus E! It should fit into everyone's collection. With regards EFE i am told there is also an Irish themed model due shortly and it is also not CIE, DB or Bus E!. Again this should prove very popular here and in the UK. EFE have been asked many times to do the imp but Frank is reluctant saying his casting is not exact to what DB had but the Australian market have managed EFE to produce 4 or 5 minibuses which are not exact either. The imp would look great and i feel the tiny detail that is not correct would be overlooked for the sake of getting the imp done. With regards the Octo D, Octo was let down by the manufacturer. They planned to do the tan version and finally the green one. The Octo model was a white metal which is much heavier than the diecast used by EFE and corgi etc, so after 500 runs the Octo model would be finished although they only got a 100 odd. The reason 500 would have been the end is the tooling would have been too damaged because of the weight of the cast. Last Edited By: wyth 03/08/2008 13:30:51. Edited 1 time.

Posts: 129 04/08/2008 22:13:53 Full Member	Wyth, Curious you should mention the Metrorider. This was discussed at length a couple of years ago with Don, David Rowe and myself. There was a problem however. Prior to Don Craggs starting Britbus/Irbus he was a partner in business with the now defunct A.B.C M odels, those superb China Motoer Bus models which Don produced from the late 1990s until about 2003. Included were many Metrobuses, Leyland Victory . Guy Arab single and double decks. Alisa Volvos of which three different types were produced, the CMB model single door, CMB Model 'long' dual door and a variety of British Ailsaa types. One of the last buses you may remember produced by A.B.C was the Metrorider, almost an exact copy of the Dublin Bus Localink. The finished bus was again a CMB LIVERIED ONE OF WHICH ONLY TWO WENT TO H.K. Apart from the windows it was identical. Soon after A.B.C parted ways as the Chinese partner weas not interested in producng UK TYPE BUSES and the Ailsas were done under pressure. It was agree that all the dies and the ABC PROTOTYPE WOULD BE BROKEN UP AND NOT BE REPRODUCED BY EITHER PARTY.. To this day that is the situation. Britnus did produce a Metrorider as you know but different to theABC. I do have an BC Netrorider in my collection as does Martin Hoey I think....The twist to all this is Don is no longer with us sadly and His partner who did not like UK Buses is now the Man "Asian Bus" RPODUCING THESE large 1/24th scale DMS and Metrobuses in London colours no less... So to sum up Asian Bus is busy produing these huge 1/24th scales for EFE and others BUT NOT the RM or the RT. They are from Sunstar stable...Who knows maybe one might see a 1/24th Leyland Titan RA from Donnybrook on the 46A...no lads...dream on !!!

As for comprimise models I recently started reciveing my Airlink AV's (CMNC) and I have to say that it is an outstanding model , and although like others I would prefer to see a model that is a 100% representation of the actual bus , after years of NO-ONE producing Irish model buses , A model with a few imperfections is far better than no model at all , even now looking at the first 00 gauge model I ever bought , the Corgi Bus Eireann DVH 14 , I can still remember the uproar that followed the release of that and the mad scramble to get hold of them , and even though that model is nearly completely wrong ( wrong height , wrong back end , doors where there should'nt be and no doors where they should be and grills in all the wrong places) that model still sits at the center of my collection and I am still happy to have it (imperfections and all) Am looking forward to seeing the new Bus Eireann livery being modeled but I hope this does'nt mean we wont see a drop in models in the old liveries

I have also seen Metroriders which may have been the cheaper Basetoy type bus but I do not have any.myself. Occasionally an BC Metrorider comes up on eBay but usually commands over £25Stg... i have just the one which I winkled from Liam Fay... It cost me two CMNL Dublin Bus Dennis DT mi.nt and boxed though!!! . By the way Tarabuses ALL THE ABC models dies were destroyed including the superb Metrobuses in three axle, Daimler Fleetlines, Leyland Victorys, Guy Jubilant, Ailsa Volvos etc The good thing is that they are fairly easy to get. I keep some for sale. only a small amount. The best was the Guy Arab single deck "Long Dragon" half cab with the 30 foot body. of 1964 n a superb model, I have just one. As you say , a shame but this is quite common in this business when partners split or administrators foreclose. What's the betting we will see a Dublin Metrorider now ?' Don E Brook
