Just to add to the technical details of the AEC Regent one thing not mentioned above is how much more advanced the Regent III was over its biggest rival the Leyland Titan. The main advantage was the four speed air operated preselector gearbox which would explain the popularity of these buses with drivers, the single deck Regal III (A class) and later Regal IV (AU class) also had this gearbox and there is a story of an AU finding its way to Cork and being held "hostage" there for a time such was its popularity. The AEC's were also air braked at this time several years before Leyland offered a similar braking system on the Titan. While the Titan was a solid and reliable chassis in terms of development the Regent was ahead of it with the Leyland playing catch up.

On a different point apparently CIE originally ordered 100 Regent III's in 1947 but because of an agreement with Leyland only 10 were actually delivered, becoming of course AR2-11.
