Yes GNR302, "on mature reflection", I think the reference to Cork holding onto the AEC was in fact referring to an AU. However, here is a quote from an article Michael Corcoran (MC) wrote in "Buses" July 1971 on GNR double deckers. After referring to the withdrawal from service of the ex-CIE Rs (GN nos. 280-284), he continues; "The first genuine GNR double deckers to go were 285-8 which disappeared about 1960 and soon afterwards during surplus of double deckers caused by traffic developements in Dublin some of the AECs were delicenced but after reinstatements appeared in Cork and Limerick for short periods. All afterwards returned to traffic, 293 and 297 for only a short time, the latter ending its days as a skid pan bus". Unquote. We all recognise that MC is an authority on such matters so it would be worthwhile following this up, or perhaps some of the older generation (not OLD generation!) of enthusiasts in CK or LK may have more to add.
MC also refers to 292 serving as the Works bus at Inchicore in a yellow /white livery. I have some photos of this vehicle which lasted some years beyond its peers as a result.
