Looking at my own records, I spent the second half of September on a Rail Rambler ticket, my first independent trip to many parts of Ireland. I did of course record bus observations on this trip.

On 25th Sept I was in Waterford, where the double deckers observed were AA1/2/3 R271/5 711 741 and 788. As R711 741 and 788 went to Waterford to replace R271/4/5, it is likely that the Queen Marys had just been withdrawn. These buses, of course, spent most of their lives in Dublin on the 30. So isn't it coincidence that 40 years later, almost to the day, RA271/4 have just been withdrawn from route 130, while RA275 survives - for the moment!
