Al....Your reasoning is very correct but yet so poigniant and was in fact discussed in depth at my canteen table this Easter Sat Morning.

A motley crue of 6 drivers including 2 VERY committed Republican leaning fellows all agreed that the original signatories of the Proclaimation would be hard pressed to recognize the eventual outcome of their sacrifice in modern Ireland.

The over-riding feeling was one of an indigenous people now without any real identity, and all the more so since we have seemingly no great oppressive enemy to lash out at any longer.

As a culture and as a people we have developed into a race which abhors the very notion of doing anything "right",so much so that its fairly self evident that what we DO need is somebody from "outside" to kick Irish Ass into shape.

This very thread is proof positive of this.

Here we have yet another apparently random street closure.
The Capital City`s main thoroughfare closed for an entire day and by all accounts nobody in the City Council or the Gardai felt it worthwhile to consult with the largest single user of that street....The Public !!

Dublin Bus is tasked with the job of providing the City`s Bus Service.

That service is for the PUBLIC and in many cases is funded accordingly by Central Government.

This is the stuff of a functioning City....This is what a LIVING City is about.
To advise it`s customers a mere one week in advance it doers not actually know what route its main trunk services will take is in my opinion a Nightmare scenario.

It is truly bizzarre to read in the BAC Website of it`s INSPECTORS being involved in attempting to devise alternative routings.
At the very least this type of infrastructural alteration, temporary or not belongs at the very TOP of ALL of the Citys Administrative agencies.
The very fact that it was obviously sprung upon BAC at short notice only serves to underline in blood red ink how seriously deficient this Citys Adninistrative functions really are.

Presently BAC and the other agencies are still involved in "discussions" on what is going to happen to Bus services during the imminent new Luas construction phase.
As yet we have no real idea of what "Compromise" is going to result but Dublins Public Transport using citizens can rest asured it WILL be a compromise and some of them will suffer as a result.

NOBODY....I repeat ...NOBODY in authority is prepared to openly admit the nature and extent of the disruption.
The entire thrust is to minimize "disruption" especially to the private motorist, thereby propogating the myth that we DO have a plan and it is a functional efficient one.......
Don`t worry people...It won`t be.....It will be more of the same...

There ARE ways and means of ensuring that a Public Transport Service remains fully functional and perhaps even increases in efficiency during the construction phase BUT it involves REAL prioritization of Public Transport and the reallocation of SPACE to that mode.....Don`t fret people it WON`T happen.

However one great benefit of assigning such massive responsibilities as rerouting entire Route`s to Inspectors is that at least you have a sacrifical lamb when and if it all goes wrong.

Our senior City Administrators are FAR too valuable a commodity to risk being held accountable for such decisions.

Is that the unmistakable stench of putrefaction I detect,or merely rotten eggs !!!!

Transport 21....come on Down......!!!!!!!!!!!!!
