In all fairness, I agree that respect for services and compliance with bye laws on buses/trains/LUAS/society in general should be enforced rigorously but in all fairness, what inspector is going to put his/her personal safety on the line (no matter how much he/she's paid to do the job) when they have no proper backup (Gardai), even if they do the Gardai bring the offender to the court, which then sends the offender to a prison with a revolving door, and because of the wonderful system we have in Ireland they are free to do it all over again about 2 weeks later, only this time round they'll be prepared to seek revenge on that particular driver/inspector who got them banged up for that 2 weeks, and its the man/woman at the coal face thats dealing with that kind of lowlife day in day out, and why bother when nobody in charge seems to care?

When the drivers/inspectors are "expected" to 'deal' with some waste of space that calls themselves a human being, is most likely a career criminal, who has nothing in life, aint going anywhere either and has abseloutely nothing to lose, they have no hesitiation pulling a knife/bottle/syringe etc and stabbing someone in a uniform when they're challenged over going too far on a ticket/vandalising a bus/smoking etc. Combine this danger along with the apathy and indifference expressed by the powers that be who just shrug their shoulders, and ask yourself, would YOU put yourself in that position if thats what you are facing?

The likes of these scumbags dont care what uniform you wear, they just have a total disregard for society in general, they get away with it because they KNOW the can get away with it. No one cares. Just like with the public transport system here, its time for a radical reform.
