Don't we already have a Route 53A running along that exact same route apart from stopping at the Docklands station? Why didn't they simply increase the 53A service? It could have done all this without the diversion onto Mayor Street (or maybe that would be good for the 53A).

As I recall, creating a new bus route number incurs greater start-up costs than increasing the service of an existing route. This is inexcusable "pork-barrel" spending.

Of course, the very location of the Docklands station needing all these new bus routes is a negative indictment. I suppose that any stopgap until the vaunted Luas extension in this direction (along Mayor Street to the Docklands station) is justifiable to this present government...anything except doing common-sense increases or extensions in service to existing routes, that is.
