We all know that the rules of our roads are not best laid out for every type of vehicle that use them, the bottom line of it is when you cause an accident and kill someone undertaking such action it will be your fault. When your in a hardshoulder driving a large fast moving vehicle that wont stop too quickly and a situation develops in front of you it means you are quite simply sunk! The time it takes a driver to see, then process whats happening in front of him, then make the decision that he needs to apply the anchors and then for your great lumbering double decker to come to a complete stop is quite a long time. Now if you have no where to go and there is a person who just came out of the hedge where his bunglow is, and you have one truck on your offside passing you out and another truck on his tail who ''wants to get by this F....ing bus' and doesnt care what situation you are in. You are quite simply sunk. What do you do? Put the bus into the hedge and risk hurting everyone on the bus? Do you run over and kill your newly found friend from the hedge? Or do you take the sensible decision to push the 2 artic lorries into the oncoming traffic? Who gets the blame? The nice bus driver!

If the bus is plodding along doing its thing at 80 kph the following traffic has 2 options, wait until the backlog has cleared or overtake when safe. As far as Im concerned (someone who has a full D licence) it is not an option to put a heavy vehicle into the hard shoulder for anything other that stopping.
