Sounds like a good idea, Wayne. I am interested in aviation myself, although I wouldn't know the types of some of the aircraft. I see the aircraft from Baldonnel practicing quite often, so i would be more familiar with the IAC aircraft than I would with, lets say the commercial airlines. I've grown up listening to the sounds of the Dauphins, the Alouettes, the Gazelles, the Silver Swallows, the Marchettis. Now, it's the Agusta AW139s, the Pilatus PC-9s and the Eurocopter EC135s as well as the Cessnas (yes, they're still on the go), Gulfstram jet, Learjet, the Super Sea King Air, CASA and the odd Sikorsky Sea King. To me, a 737 would look like an airbus when flying over, for example. During airshows in Baldonnel, when they had them, it was great to see all the different aircraft from around the world flying over my house. One time, when there was an airshow, I was woken to the sound of a Mirage jet practicing. It was so loud, i thought it was thunder and hid under the sheetsimage Just a kid then. My favourite jet has to be the Eurofighter Typhoon from the RAF, which I saw at Salthill in 2007. Fanatastic sound and fantastic moves. Also, there are freight planes that to the rounds in the mornings and evenings with four propellors. I never knew what they were called, but recently discovered they are actually Lockheed Electras. It's a nice sound to here, especially during the summer. It's a pity that there aren't a lot of Irish aircraft models out there, like the buses.

When I began getting the bus to and from town 10 years ago, I never knew the fleet details, even though I was interested in buses. A Bombardier was a Bombardier to me and not a KD. A D was an old Leyland to me as well. It was only since I came across Garaiste and read it regularly that I got to know the different types of bus and was able to identify my RHs from my RAs and RVs. So, I suppose if an aviation section was set up here, I would be able to identify an aircraft better. So, again it sounds like a good idea. We could identify any unusual sightings.

On the note of the Irish Aircorps, for those of you interested, there is a forum on www.worldairpics.com/forum/. It's very interesting. Another site is www.irishairpics.com. There is a list of every aircraft time with many pictures of each.
