Yes indeed that is very interesting information. I reckoned the photo went back a long time but not that far! The significance of it being so far back in 1948 is that I don't think the ARs were allocated to the 23 then. They may have been, but only just. According to Michael Corcoran, the 9/10 were operated at one time by the R280s in Donnybrook and the ARs in C Road. The R280s only went into service in February/March 1948. They were replaced on the 10 certainly within a year, replaced by Boltons. I would expect that the ARs were likely to have been on the 10 until July 1949 at least, when C Road got Capetowns, as there were no newer buses in C Road, and they are unlikely to have taken ARs off the 10 and put older buses on it.

So does that reopen the question of what type of bus is crossing Parnell St. on the 23??
