Yes the walk down Alexander Road is a very grim even in daylight.

For some ridiculous reason the last 53B off the port is 19:05, despite the 17:15 ex Holyhead Jonathon Swift arriving 10 minutes later. I downright refuse to get taxis in Dublin, so my move is the lonely 25 minute walk up to the 151 terminus on East Road which brings me right over to Drimnagh.

Interesting alright, I always found the IOMSP a very interesting company by way of operations, timetables etc. Unfortunately, while a very regular ferry user I'm also wary of going out to sea this time of year. Generally, in the Winter for my UK trips I generally fly. If I'm going to somewhere such as North Wales where I must take the ferry I generally decide based on looking at the sea area forecast a couple of days before hand weather whether to go or not.

As a rule thumb, if the fast ferries are caped it means it will be rough. I remember been on the Innishmore before the arrival of Ulysses and boy I will never forget it. I believe Ulysses holds up well on a rough crossing but I just will not go out in anything over a force 7 since that night.

The Ben-my-Chree I imagine been so small would take some beating in a gale, hopefully though you will get a calm night.
