C236,In relation to the Summerhill D that you saw on the 31, I think it far more likely that this was a Summerhill operated journey on the 31. It was quite common for buses to do journeys on routes of other garages. This would especially have been true of seaside routes, with a lot of extras from all garages on sunny days. But it could happen anytime.I would be pretty certain that a D was not on loan to Clontarf. The drivers were not trained on Ds, the pits were not long enough to maintain them. A D may have visited the garage, but I think it most likely that the 31 you saw was driven by a Summerhill driver, who started and finished his duty in Summerhill.

A number of types from various depots worked Clontarf routesduring the Bus Lane trials in and around 1971. Maybe a D operated the 31at that time.
