Direct Route Toll Roads and the N.R.A. have been accused of stealing the Watergrasshill bypass on the N8/M8 , a team of E.U. investigators arrived in Cork on monday on foot of legal procceedings by the E.U.
The main area of concern is that the E.U. paid for the construction of the Watergrasshill bypass , and was sucessful in reducing traffic from the village , however when the M8 Fermoy bypass opened last year it is a tolled extension of the Watergrasshill bypass , and Watergrasshill cannot now be bypassed without paying a toll , which it is claimed to be an illegal use of an E.U. funded road
