Posts: 2317 19/05/2007 10:54:40 Archivist	Tags : None Everyone, I have just received from Ian Molloy the very sad news that Eamon McArthur, aka MuffinMan passed away yesterday. Eamon had been ill for the past several weeks, but had remained in constant touch with myself and others on the scene, and as recently as last Wednesday was taking photos on his way to and from the doctor. Eamon emailled me late on Wednesday night with a photo for the PHOTO FILE, and I will be putting this up later today as part of a tribute to him. Information on any arrangments will also be put here as it becomes available. On behalf of all of us here, I'd like to offer my respects and best wishes to his family at this difficult time. May you Rest in Peace Eamon. Gabriel Conway

Posts: 1887 19/05/2007 12:08:14 Professional Driver	Very sad news indeed. The Bus World and particularly the Irish Preservation Movement will be all the lesser without E Mc. A true character with whom you could both agree and violently argue with in the course of a single posting. His enthusiasm and to no small measure his skill with the Photographic Lens were always apparent and deserving of ongoing recognition. He leaves behind what appears to be a Gigantic body of work which I hope will continue to feature in the Irish Public Transport scene. I never knew Eamo personally,but I hope that his family and friends will allow the collation of his vast repetoire to continue and expand on the net perhaps. I know from his postings that he was reviewing his old collections and occassionally putting up some interesting ones to be savoured. It should be remembered that it`s not only Dublin and Ireland he covered but to a very great extent the "Other" Ireland which was firmly rooted around the big UK Towns and Cities. This "Other" Ireland was part and parcel of the UK`s transport scene particularly in 1950`s and 60`s London which Eamo did real justice to. I`ll miss his camera bedecked frame leaping out from behind a lamp post on Parnell Sq as he furiously snapped away and then dived into the bag for a notebook and pen before rushing off for the next Photo Opp. In an increasingly and at times oppressively sterile world,Eamon MacArthur will remain in my mind as somebody who lived life to the full as HE liked it,spoke his mind,ruffled feathers,got up noses and sauntered away whistling a happy tune. "Come along there Eamo...Last Car to the Galty..SEats on Top...Hold the bar there now...Ding Ding !! " Yep...He WILL be missed....!

I don't know about anybody else, but any time I've logged onto this board over the past four years, Eamon's were always the first posts I read. They were interesting, informative, witty and not without the occasional hint of controversy. He'll be sorely missed. Condolences to his family and friends. R.I.P Eamon.

Posts: 4 19/05/2007 17:34:34	Eamon passed away about 5pm yesterday. He had been ill for some time, but there was no indication that his illness was serious or life threatening. He rang me at 2pm and we had our usual chat about bus matters, including the impending route 74. He told me at the start of the conversation about his illness and my last words to him were "take care of yourself". He felt ill about 4pm was taken by ambulance to Beaumont Hospital, fully conscious, but died soon after. Due to the sudden death, it will be some days before there are funeral arrangements. May he rest in peace

Posts: 4 19/05/2007 17:56:28	I have known Eamon for about 25 years and would count him as a personal friend. I was introduced to him by Ian Molloy and we kept in touch over all those years. Eamon had three aspects to his life - his family, his work and his one hobby, his interest in buses. He worked for many years with Guinness, and after his retirement he drove buses for various companies. This was when his hobby and work came together. He stopped driving buses some time ago for health reasons. Eamon was essentially a family man. He had a loving, stable family home with his wife, sons, daughters and more recently grandson. He was very caring and a great organiser to his extended family. Some of you will be aware that he visited London quite often. This was not just to photograph buses (that was incidental), the main reason was to care for a relative. He also gave of his time and energy for many relatives and in-laws in Ireland over the years. The birth of his grandson Luke two years ago gave him a new interest, and since his retirement Eamon has spent much of his time minding his grandson. They had a vey close relationship. His passionate interest in buses consumed his spare time. His interest was very varied. It included current Irish and UK vehicle and route developments; running boards and working practices; destination scrolls; photography; and history. His greatest talent was as a researcher and historian. His recent research of DUTC documents from 1930s/40s at IIRS has uncovered many previously unknown facts. I got a call every Tuesday night at about 11 with the latest update from Heuston. He has done much research over the years on vehicles, routes, destination scrolls, garages etc. Much of this research will hopefully be retained. He was also very computer literate, and had an amazing amount of detail on his computer relating to his interest in buses. His companionship and his knowledge will be sadly missed by all of us who share his interest in buses. But most of all he will be missed by his family. To his wife, Tina, his sons Stephen and Alan, his daughters Julie and Angela, his grandson Luke and his sisters I offer my sincere sympathy. May he rest in peace.

It was quite a shock, when 'djasmith' text me saying he had passed on (me being away from the PC most of the day), as I had seen him on the Monday previous. Agreeing, that without his enthusiasm and assitance the current enthusiast scene wouldn't be what it is today. Indeed, he has aided my website along with information, photos, & fleetlists. I'm sure family and friends would be happy of the fact there is a ongoing tribute to Eamon, from people who benefitted from his mass bus wisdom!

Posts: 234 19/05/2007 20:28:58 Full Member	Very sad news , I am shocked to learn of Eamons passing , Although I never met Eamon in person I always looked forward to his posts on any given topic , his knowlage truly was extensive and very insightful , indeed I had many a good laugh at his witty remarks on many occassions , also very impressive is Eamons photography collection , with many rare and excellent shots , some of which would be the only known photos of certain buses to exist , I hope his research on pioneering Irish bus operators will not be lost , I beleive I am not alone when I say that Eamons input to these forums will be sadly missed My deepest sympathies are with Eamons family at this difficult time You will be missed Eamon , rest in peace

I had the Pleasure of knowing Eamon for the last 3 years having been introduced to him by Fred Dean at Broadstone in May 2004. His sense of humour and in depth knowledge of Irish Operators will certainly be missed by both myself and the Enthuasiast Community. Posts: 731 19/05/2007 23:35:42 Full Member	I wish to add my shock at the untimely passing of Mr McArthur. I had the pleasure of speaking/ listening to him many times over many years. His loss will be immense to the Bus enthusiast community. His knowledge of Irish bus operations was immense, but his knowledge of London bus services, fleets etc. was equally as impressive. Almost as impressive as the amount of photos he took even in the pre-digital era. Sadly some of his knowledge will be lost but hopefully his trawls through the National Library, IRRS records etc. can be collected together for the complete history of Irish buses. That would be a fitting tribute to the man.

Posts: 59 20/05/2007 09:03:18 Full Member	It is with sadness that I learnt of the untimely death of Eamon who I met for the first time in the summer of 1984 in the then CIE depot in Bundoran Co. Donegal while he photographed E120 operating the then 15.00 Friday afternoon service to Ballyshannon. I had the pleasure of meeting and communicating with him many times since, indeed he gave me the opportunity to travel on the platform of R913 during the Dublin Bus Rally many years ago. Eamon was a real genuine person whose knowledge of the Irish Bus Scene was immense, his photographic collection was amazing. Eamon will be sadly missed by all with an interest in Irish Public Transport. I believe that his memory should be honoured by the holding of a Bus Rally in Dublin to honour a man who was one of Irelands Greatest Bus Enthusiasts. To his wife Tina and family I would like to offer my sincere sympathy.

Have seen him out a few times on bus runs I have been to and also seen him on the streets on the capital when i use to travel home on the bus. Never chatted to him which is a regret but had heard his conversations with other bus enthusists. Was a great of source of information and took amazing photos of buses around the country and in the UK. Always set a standard that I would loved to acheive - photo wise. Will be sadly missed here - both his information and pics. May he Rest in Peace.

I remember when myself and the rest of the AOD group bought D635 back in 2003 Eamon was the man who came forward with some fantastic photos of her in the days when she had a roof and windows!
