Here is a photo of the booking office in Midleton railway station in it's currnet state. This photo plus others at the included link. Does anyone have any
memories of this station that they would like to share? Does anyone know what date the last train departed this station or which loco pulled that train? All
info greatly appreciated.

The last passenger services on the Youghal branch ran on Feb 2 1963 although the line remained open for freight/special traffic until the 80's.

The Cork - Middleton line is being rebuilt so it will need a new station, It looks beyond repair to me from those photos !

How far down towards Youghal will they renew the track? I presume that there will be end-on buffers here.
The stockpiled bricks may go missing but it would be nice to recycle them at the site. Maybe the building is listed. |

There is work being carried out in the building at the moment. It is being dismantled brick by brick. The bricks are carefully piled around in bails the outside of the building for further use. All the wooden door and window frames are rotten and stand in a pile outside also. The you for your responses. |

There is no new commuter rolling stock on order.
With 22000s being released onto the Tralee line, it will probably be 2600 Class trains as on Cork-Cobh, with the remaining 2600s transferring from Dublin. I would expect the 2700s to move to Limerick for the WRC and local services there. The 2800s and 29000s will then be left to operate all Connolly based commuter services. This will mean standardised fleets in each depot. |

last train to Midleton | #9 | ||

7Minus1,
The last regular timetable passenger service to Midleton and Youghal was indeed in 1963. But the line was used for many years later for summer Sunday passenger trains. Not sure when they finally stopped, but I think they probably lasted into the 70s. They were not included in the rail timetable, but were advertised locally. I'm not sure if they served all intermediate stations. There were four daily trains to and from Youghal in a typical timetable from the late 50s/early 60s. Up to the end of service, two of these were regularly pulled by the unique ex-GNR loco K801. |
