rumour has it the no 12 in cork will be monday to friday only pushing even more people onto the 7 and 8 routes .any news on whats happening to the excess buses ? i wonder will they store them all or withdraw the older ones . are the ams , sls and vwds still to enter service it would be some waste if they didnt . i wonder would the excess dublin deckers be borrowed for corks 5 and 8 it would make sense to have higher capacity if frequencies are to be cut

And RH12, I don't know what you call pulling a stunt, but my daughter got badly caught by the last 101 at night leaving the airport early, even though the driver knew she was coming (I was on the bus and in mobile phone contact with her), and she had to get a taxi to Balbriggan

Your daughter should ring Drogheda about that"

us Eireann plans to cut staff numbers by around 300 and reduce its bus fleet by 150, blaming the effects of the economic downturn. In a statement, the company said that it had expanded its network in recent years in line with growing demand, but there had been 'a significant drop' in demand for public transport last year. Bus Eireann said this had hit its revenue, and cost-cutting measures were unavoidable. The company currently employs 2,700 people. It says the reduction in the bus fleet will lead to a phased re-organisation of its route network. It said passenger numbers fell by 4% last year because of a fall in the number of people in work, a drop in the number of non-Irish nationals, a significant slowdown in retailing and a reduction in the number of tourists visiting the country. Bus Eireann estimates a further drop of 5% to 6% in passenger numbers in 2009. The company says its cost-cutting plan is designed to protect as many services and jobs as possible, while returning it to a break-even situation by the end of 2010. Last week, Dublin Bus announced plans to cut 290 jobs and reduce its fleet by 120 buses.

Bus Éireann has announced plans to lay off 300 workers as part of a cost-cutting programme. The state-owned company says it also plans to take 150 vehicles off the road, cut back on services and axe some unspecified routes. A pay freeze and a recruitment embargo will also be introduced. Bus Éireann says the cuts are necessary following a 4% fall in passenger numbers last year and projected losses of €30m this year. News of the cost cuts comes just days after Dublin Bus announced plans to axe 290 jobs and reduce its fleet by 120 buses.
