Saw the best one yet on Saturday afternoon...
Road works on Ballyowen Road. They've been going on now since 1847, and no sign of progress or even any people working on site.
Anyway, northbound and southbound carriageways at Hermitage are divided by road works and crash barriers, which leave a narrow single file lane either side of the thoroughfare.
So on Saturday, Nigel tries to cross the bridge southbound at Woodies, but gets stuck in a traffic jam, and only inches his way along towards the roundabout. The reason? On the FAR side, two cars are parked up on the kerb, leaving precious little room for cars northbound to squeeze past, the resulting delay backing round the roundabout to where I am.
As I sit in the queue, a lady locks the first car, and gets into the second car, which promptly bounces down off the kerb and drives away northbound, leaving the first car abandoned blocking the road.
Even as the lady gets into the second car, the 25A is arriving, and as that car drives away, the 25A bus is meeting the rear bumper of the abandoned car, and cannot fit between it and the crash barrier. Another 25A looms in the distance.
There was NOWHERE for those buses to go. That driver must have had to stop the bus and end his journey, as he could neither go forward nor back. The traffic jam was bad then - when the bus arrived, everything stopped and the resulting backlog must have been MASSIVE! I was lucky to have reached that roundabout and got away just at the critical moment!
Why can't these blasted people be arrested, have their cars confiscated, and their driving licences revoked? If she had a car problem, I'm sure half a dozen people would have pushed the car on somewhere out of the way. But she simply abandoned it, regardless of everyone else, and a bus arriving literally feet behind...
