In terms of noise, I'd always hear them going down the Naas Road or indeed the surrounding roads and you'd hear them for quite a while, depending on which way the wind was blowing. There was nothing that I could ever fault on these buses. They had so many characteristics that made them so unique. The doors never opened together and maybe only one door would be open as it would arrive at a stop and then the other would swing open then. The same story when they'd be closing. And then some of the bonnets would swing open as well and you might be surrounded by black smoke. Also, the noise of the brakes was distinctive as well.
In their final days, particularly in C Road, KC191 seemed to be the only one of its class left, while there were still some KDs mainly on the 91. With the AVs now in force on the 51B, the occasional KD still appeared on it. I had thought that I would never get one again until 322 pulled up to do the 16:10 69. I think that was September 2000. I also had a brief spin on KC191 on the 68 to Wood Quay where we swapped for an AD. It's sad that when you get off an old bus in its last days in service and you think that you will never have the opportunity to travel on them anymore. Such was the case with the above two buses as well as other past vehicles.
