Tags : None Word has it Aircoach are turning up the heat on the Patton Flyer and it's unlicensed bus service On the radio today the Patton Flyer are claiming Aircoach are smearing their name by operating on their route, of course Mr Patton forgets to mention that his service is operating without a license, and claims that Aircoach are steeling his license, which he doesn't actually have. Their facebook page now reads: Flyer under threat from Dept of Transport. Licence for route issued to Aircoach. Listen again to Joe Duffy Show today. Please call show if you can.

To be honest I have little sympathy for any un-licensed bus service, at the end of the day whatever the rights and wrongs Aircoach followed the Law and the Patton Flyer felt it could ignore it and force it's way in whether it was legal or not. Of course the department of transport should have put this to bed by now and it was always going to end up like this when nothing was done. But I see Trevor Patton moaning like hell all the time but he seems to forget that the reason he is getting this is he's showed complete disregard for the laws of the country and not because of some conspiracy against him. As for the Galway case, I have little sympathy for Citylink if they get into trouble either, they know the laws and broke them, although I admit in the citylink case it's slightly different as they've adapted an existing license rather than just started operating a completely different/new service without permission.

Posts: 411 05/11/2009 16:36:03	Surely a London style system is a good thing. What would most likely happen is that the patton flyer would be bought by one of the big five. A fine gael minister has said that it wont work as CIE routes would be protected for five years.

Posts: 641 06/11/2009 18:25:13 Full Member	I wrote some remarks about the Patton Flyer operation on their facebook site (the link is below), this is the response I got from the Patton Flyer itself : The Patton Flyer Ltd. commented on your wall post: "Mr. Bird we would like to correct some inaccuracies in your comments. We welcome comments from everyone whether for or against the Patton Flyer but facts are facts and cannot be argued by the use of assumptions. Please note that the "Flyer" is not an illegal service. It is currently running (and always has been) as a Private Hire Operation. There is a private hire arrangement between a Ticketing Company and the Bus Company to transport its customers to the Airport. No Licence is required by law for a private hire agreement. More importantly, The Patton Flyer Buses are operated by a Company that is FULLY insured and is in possession of all required Certs for all bus operators ie CPC's International Transport Certs etc. All of these certs are available to be inspected by anyone who would like to make an appointment with us to see them. The Gardai are aware of this and have seen all of them over the last few years. Thank you for your interest in our plight." Unless they`ve done a quick nip & tuck of their website it can be seen to SPECIFICALLY refer to it`s "Scheduled Service" status as well as having designated Bus-Stops and it mekes mention of "Fares" rather than Membership Dues or whatever. Mr Patton failed rather comprehensively to secure a seat in the last local elections and now we see his self accquired status as champion of the "Little Man" against not big bad Bus Atha Cliath,but even Bigger and Badder First Group. Now it`s going to get interesting as First Group could very well seek legal redress against the Department for failing to ensure the validity of its own licences as issued.....!

Posts: 1273 07/11/2009 11:16:44 Full Member	Interesting statment from Mr. Patton , I wonder does the ticketing company who the Patton Flyer is "contracted" to hold the route licence , my understanding of the private hire legalities (I contrubuted to their refinment a few years ago) is that if the operator is contracted to a third party (in this case the ticketing company) then it is the third party is rqeuired to hold the route licence , and since the Dept has no licence listed other than the First Group one , that makes this an unlicenced service no matter which way you want to spin it.
